ONE YEAR AGO THE JEWISH STAR WHINEHOUSE PASSED AWAY

Amy Jade WHINEHOUSE (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English Jewish singer and songwriter known for her powerful deep contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres

She died of alcohol poisoning on 23 July 2011. Her album Back to Black subsequently became the UK's best selling album of the 21st century. In 2012, She was listed at number 26 on  100 Greatest Women In Music.

Family and friends attended her funeral on 26 July 2011 in north London at a private service led by Rabbi Frank Hellner. Winehouse's parents decided to sit shiva,  and set up a foundation in her name, to help those affected by drug addiction.
